Death In Vegas | Transmission | CD £10.99 | Limited Gatefold 3xLP £23.99

Death in Vegas returns with 'Transmission', the sixth release from the project begun by Richard Fearless nearly two decades ago, and the first new album since 'Trans-Love Energies' in 2011.

United over a love of Throbbing Gristle and Chris and Cosey, Fearless partners with artist and writer Sasha Grey, whose lyrics resonate across the soundscape of visceral techno and unsettling, discordant drones, weaving into a state of dreamlike euphoria.

Field recordings of the constant drone of air traffic and incessant noise from the steel factory opposite Fearless’ Metal Box studio, as well as the Ballardian landscape in which it’s set, all exert their pull on the record, searching for light in the dark

Okada | Love Telepathic | CD £11.99

One of n5MD newer signings Okada has prepared his fourth album Love Telepathic. The album, his second for the n5MD imprint, has a more uplifting message and overall feel than 2015's darker opus Impermanence. Okada, AKA Gregory Pappas says of Love Telepathic: "it's about falling in love and eternally sustaining that love through the pitfalls and times where sometimes it seems all is lost". Love Telepathic reflects on love from a shadowier advantage. It poignantly looks towards the work, sacrifice, and even loss that often rears itself in a relationship. One key and important element of Love Telepathic is how positive the outcome of love can truly can be. Those that have a true undying understanding of one another shall overcome any hurdle together. And in some rare cases the understanding is so strong that words are meaningless. This is Love Telepathic.

Dalot | Mutogibito | CD £11.99

In 1939, Jorge Luis Borges rewrites Cervantes' Quixote as fictional character Pierre Menard. The result of the rewriting is a line-for-line identical version of the original, written however from a 20th century perspective. Borges considers the new version to be much richer than the original; its richness lies not solely on the material itself but on the events that predate it. Literary cliches and narrative predictability suddenly take on different meanings.

Dalot's new album is similarly a revisit and departure. After having gone through various waves of ambient/post-rock composition, like the experimental Labradford-ian Loop Over Latitudes, the SOTL/long composition 'orchestral' dark serenity of Minutestatic and a series of more formal experiments and collaborations, Dalot returns with an album that somewhat reminds of work even as early as her first EP Flight Sessions. In fact, Mutogibito goes further back to post-rock's often over used patterns that Dalot and most similar 00s artists would probably shy away from. Only in this case, they are seen from the melancholy distance of the 21st century and through the existentially tainted glasses of motherhood.

With a more cyclical and loopy nature than Dalot's more recent work and certainly sunnier than most of her releases, Mutogibito is an album about birth as a process of repetitive motions and creativity as a mixture of textures and gestures that frequently are not about self-reinvention, but the acceptance of ones own cliches as they form through gestural repetition. Songs like "Tear" and "Lift" appropriate all sorts of 90s post-rock and IDM sensitivities, reminding even of Godspeed or Plaid and Dalot sounds more song-y and structure-specific than ever before.

In Mutogibito, it is frequently difficult to tell who is actually the composer: Dalot herself as a sound artist in 2016, the teen Dalot music collector of the late 90s, the abstract and yet unformed new-born Athena baby, Dalot's long-time collaborators, the parade of influences and the history of ambient music, the passing of time itself. The listener is invited to immerse themselves in it and bring their own aural experiences, adding yet another layer to the cyclical multi-referential nature of the album.

Ocoeur | Reversed | CD £11.99

Reversed is the fourth album from French composer / sound designer Franck Zaragoza and his ever-expressive Ocoeur nom de plume. The opening swell and passionate piano that precedes it sets the tone for what could very well be Zaragoza's most personally ardent set of compositions to date. Zaragoza thoughtfully augments his modern solo piano compositions with creative, some might even say organic, sound design and meticulous melancholic string harmonies. Reversed is without a doubt a truly personal listening experience meant to be absorbed again and again.

‘Vanguard 1’ is the first major solo release by Andy Pickford since 2003 and a welcome return for the enigmatic UK synth maestro. As one of the most popular of the 1990’s UK ‘new wave’ of electronic music exponents, Andy Pickford’s music is characterised by strong rhythms and sequences, and above all, melodies and themes to die for!

To state that this album is a ‘stunning return’ would be a huge understatement – ‘Vanguard 1’ is mind blowing – a selection of 11 dynamic and expertly constructed, interlinked tracks that power into the senses like a juggernaut. Full of ideas and creativity, it’s utterly compelling!

As you’d expect the music is very melodic, with one memorable theme after the other demanding ‘repeat play’. Sequences and rhythms are tight, imaginative and contemporary, yet they don’t lose sight of Andy Pickford’s EM roots, even when flirting with the chill and electronica style vocal tracks that permeate this extraordinary album.

‘Vanguard 1’ is the first in a trilogy of releases planned on AD Music – with ‘2’ and ‘3’ already recorded. ‘Volume 2’ is scheduled for June 2016 release to coincide with Andy’s E-Scape 2016 appearance and ‘Volume 3’ will probably be released at the end of 2016.

The music featured on ‘Vanguard 1’ is beautifully produced and shows a maturity and expertise that will appeal to his existing fans and is sure to garner praise from the wider electronica/chill market

My work has been described as "Glacial Ambient” by a number of critics, which has a certain logic to it, (However I tend to see myself more in the minimalist tradition of Steve Riech, Philip Glass and La Mont Young - and as a I tend to use heavily processed audio and electronics. I have definite Electroacoustic / musique concrete influences as well,) But "Glacial Ambient” is a fairly close fit as I tend to work with very slow development and gradual change within a piece.

As a composer I’m constantly feel myself pulled in two directions, Firstly I try to avoid the tendency of a lot of contemporary music of constantly adding more and more superfluous detail and “events” to provide interest to hold the attention of the listener, rather than leaving the composition to develop slowly under its own internal logic. And secondly in opposition to this I’m interested in giving a sense of place or landscape and development even a sense of drama into a piece.

In an attempt to reconcile these two trends I decided for my next release that I would produce one extended composition with five related movements. As in my previous work the whole piece developed slowly, however in a break with my previous compositions in “in the forest” includes more “dramatic” sections where I make use of feedback and overdriven distorted sounds and move the piece out of the ambient cannon.. - Mark Harris
