‘Helios’ is a wonderfully chilled and cosmic release that transports the listener on slowly evolving textures and gentle, pulse like sequences. The effect is evocative because Steve is very adept at creating hypnotic moods and soundscapes of otherworldly overtones. The effect is engrossing and enthralling.
There are occasional spoken samples, questions about the cosmos and ours solar system, and these work well in the context of the album. Everything is beautifully produced with a depth and warmth sadly lacking in a lot of music of this style.
‘Helios’ is good quality ambient, electronic space music that builds upon rather than trying to emulate classic electronic music of the 70’s and 80’s. That gives it an originality and a depth setting it apart from similar music of the genre.
